ILO partners Nigerian creative industry, trains 31 young filmmakers, creative artists

As part of its efforts to create more jobs amidst large unemployment in the country, International Labour Organisation (ILO) has entered into partnership with Nigerian Filmmakers and creative artists.
In the just concluded two weeks Digital Young Filmmakers Academy organised for 31 young filmmakers and creative artists in Lagos, Nigeria, the International Labour Organisations (ILO) Country Director, Vanessa Phala said the training was meant to make the 31 participants wealth creators and also use them as tools to tackle unemployment which has continue to ravage country.
ILO reiterated that the target of the jointly organised programme is to tackle hardship and depression among the youth with creation of over five million jobs in the next few months.
Phala who was represented by Dr Runo Onosode, explained that the main focus of ILO is to equip the youths towards better Nigeria.
"I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to you all to this Digital Young Filmmakers Academy, an initiative that embodies the ILO’s commitment to fostering decent work, promoting opportunities for young people, and advancing social justice.
According to Phala, "This program represents a critical step in empowering young people, equipping them with digital content creation and short film production skills, and creating pathways for digital entrepreneurship and employability. The ILO recognizes that young people are at the heart of innovation and progress, and through this initiative, we aim to provide the tools and platforms for you to realize your potential."
On his part, Mike Premium PCCSIGN President, Nwabufo said the creative artists and filmmakers industry has not only become employer of labour but is planning to become the largest employer of labour with creation of five million direct and indirect jobs in the next few weeks.
Ambassador Nwabufo, popularly known as ‘Mike Premium’, who was recently appointed as an Ambassador for the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in April 26, 2024, reiterated that film industry can become an avenue to tackle hardship, hunger and reduce joblessness in the land, if government will create conducive atmosphere.
On his part, Keppy Ekpenyong, explained that the industry is filled with capable hands that are adding value to life by their works.
Ekpenyong pointed out that entertainment industry is an industry that is filled with disciplined and qualified people.
Ekpenyong, who also is Young People Advocate from UNICEF, filmmaker, content creator and Nollywood person, while speaking with journalists during a recess, urged the 31 youths to adhere strictly to dedicated and disciplined life because the industry is made up of qualified professionals.
Veteran Actor Ekpenyong, who commands the screen as Colonel Segun in At Ease, a figure of strength and discipline. advised the 31 to avoid any distractive activities that might derail their future ambitions.
The two weeks Digital Young Filmmakers Academy for the 31 young filmmakers and creative artists from across the country was jointly organised United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations International Children's Emergency (UNICEF) United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ( UNESCO), United Nations Sexual and Reproductive Health Agency (UNFPA), and United Nations Women.
